Indonesian law & the judicial systems in other Islamic states is a due processing of the elements received from the Quran. Amoral x no principles x conscience latent x no love x due process = (variations off) rule of outlawry.
Rule of outlawry is wholly immoral; unfit to rule over man or creature, which is why both Bible & Quran which can agree on little else, jointly & severally oppose it.
The west has enjoyed long periods of stability under rule of law; not least because the system itself is trusted in principle by westerners, despite dispute over individual cases.
Islam has enjoyed long periods of stability under rule of Sharia; again not least because the system is trusted in principle. Stability of a system does depend on the trust of the people it administers to. Further, rule of Sharia edict is the only system compatible & synergistic with the Quranic elements amoral x no principles etc; elements which rule of law is not compatible with.
Law is moral order codified. Morality must first exist before it can be codified. Islam holds itself a continuity off the natural religions & there is no known moral order in nature. Paganism for instance is just a collection of natural expediencies; which accord no principled moral structure. If there is a moral order to the universe, it is of such immensity it has no possible application to our small affairs: while in evolution we are nothing more than a collection of random accidents looking for somewhere to happen. It is in our Gods that we have our moral being.
The intentional moral order given in the Bible is a natural partner of rule of law. For Jews & Christians, rule of law is not a choice or an option… but a given!
My advice to Islam…. Get used to it.

My advice to the west… Get used to it!
The modern world cites due process as a brain dead mantra. If you due process flour & baking powder you finish up with a different end product to what you obtain from due processing sand & cement. If you due process the conditions moral x principles you get different outcomes to due processing the conditions amoral x no principles. While due process remains the same, it is the host society that determines the elements which are to be processed, & it is the elements being processed that determine outcomes.

They don’t want the Sharia… neither do we; yet can they install rule of law, or will they install rule of outlawry.
It is in God that we have our being, for our Gods form our understandings of ourselves & our world. Thus we are not governed by what we do & do not want, but rather, are governed by what our Gods equip us to have.
Remove the Sharia & Islamic culture is predisposed to chaos & outlawry. Rule of outlawry is lower than & worse than the Sharia. A nation & society must stand on a sustainable foundation, the Sharia is the lowest sustainable standard, anything lower is non-sustainable.
If Aceh dispense with the Sharia only to install rule of outlawry in its place, that will determine end outcomes in favor of the Sharia.
Will Islam change?
Answer, the recent era has changed mans material conditions & knowledge, many off our understandings & perceptions change with it. Christianity & Secularism are changing in response to this, so to will Islam. Those who say Islam is changing are correct.
Will Islam change into something non-Islamic? Different question.
Answer, Christianity is changing & adapting, but only in a manner which remains true to its founding spirit, purpose & intent.

Footnote… The west is forever hopeful of installing rule of law in Islam. Yet one verse in the Quran states… ~Men plot & scheme but Allah is the best of schemers~ Over 1,400 years, every western attempt to graft rule of law to the condition ~amoral~ has proven Allah is indeed the best of schemers. The converse is also true, Islam has singularly failed to graft rule of Sharia edicts to the Biblical condition ~moral~ The west needs stop reinvesting in serial failure. We cannot install rule of law in Islam. Islam is impervious to it. We instead need to look to WHOLE family of Abraham solutions; ones that respect the prescriptions given by our respective Gods.
