On rule of law vs. rule of Sharia edicts. This item updated July, 2010.
The Ten Commandments are effectively ten principles given in such simplistic form they are impossible to administer as given. As such they require, indeed compel, a living judicial process to interpret & administer them in the constantly changing paradigm of human development.
Ten principles held involatile x contemporaneous judicial process = rule of law.
To which the NT clarified the first principle… ~thou shalt have no other God but me~ Thus the created law off the Bible is not universal, but ~conditional~ upon reciprocal fealty to the God off the Bible who gave the principles of enlightened law in the first place.
The Sharia is not a statement of principles, but a set of administrative legislations. As an amoral clinically unable to distinguish between right & wrong, Muhammad would not know a principle if he tripped over one in full daylight. The Sharia is a set of legislative expediencies given in sufficient detail, (In the Hadith) no recourse to the courts is necessary. As the Sharia is deemed received direct from Allah, any Muslim can implement it, indeed has a duty to implement it, & has no need of recourse to man-made courts. This has given rise to a new type of violent street gangs in the west claiming to be upholding the edicts of Islam, not the law of our society.
Unprincipled social legislation x no recourse to judicial process = a rule of fixed edicts.
The words Sharia & law should never be conflated together as one. I do not speak of Sharia law, but off Sharia edicts. The west upholds rule of law, while Sharia is a rule of fixed edicts.

I credit all the developed religions as insider religions & contributing partners to mans higher development. Whether in Chinese, Indian or Egyptian river valleys, or in the fertile crescent, Mediterranean basin or Aztec America, all lived in malleable environments over which man could exercise some dominion. Thus man could say ~thy Kingdom come~ & if followed up by discovery, innovation & organized effort it in some part did.
The Arabs lived in a desert; deserts are not malleable but unyielding. They are environments over which man can exercise little or no dominion. If the Arabs said ~thy Kingdom come~ it didn’t. It is said the Arabs are the last great romantics in the world; certainly Islam is a great romance. Finding reality was not biddable, Islam attests man cannot contribute to his own salvation, but is instead entirely dependent on the whims of Allah. The Arabs gave up on reality to become fatalistic ~Allah wills it~ then found a good romance & set up house in it. Whether we live in reality or romance we still have physical appetites to fulfill. Islam is the most wondrous of the romances on offer, because it legitimates the right to plunder the unbelievers.

The Bible is a book of principles, the Quran a book of expediencies. At base, principle & expediency are two alternate coping strategies for the challenges of life, & most of us live by some variable mix of each. No human effort is absolutely pure, (Humans are incapable of any purity) but these two works are held to be as pure in their respective genres as flawed humans can make them. In the Jewish temple only the best off animals could be sacrificed. Offerings to God had to be pure of kind. Bible & Quran are each held Holy by their respective followers, because each is pure of kind.

On predestination & childhood conditioning.
The Jesuits said… ~give me the child until he is seven & I will give you a Christian~ NZ Maori have opened their own pre-schools & schools to restore their culture based on nature spirits… ~give me the child until he is seven & I will give you a Pagan~ Muslims also advocate their own separate schools & prefer every child to be able to recite the Quran by heart at age seven… ~give me the child until he is seven & I will give you a Muslim~
Man acquires much knowledge & experience after seven, yet that which is installed by age seven is the gatekeeper program through which all later knowledge is understood & interpreted.
I note attempts at secular law in Islamic states have all turned into a corrupt sick parody of rule of law. If Islam is a disease, then the secular-Islamic mutant hybrids are a cure worse than the disease. If Biblical principles are installed as the age seven gatekeeper, a foundation for rule of law has been established, & further development will build off that foundation. If Quranic expediency is installed as the age seven gatekeeper, no foundation for rule of law exists, & further development or instruction will fail through lack of an appropriate foundation.
For myself, I believe anyone indoctrinated into the Quran by age seven is forever unfit to receive the gift of the law God gave for the governance of his people; & can only be placed under the rule of the Sharia edicts the Allah entity gave for the management of his creatures.
~I knew you before you were born or even conceived. I made you for a purpose (in me)~ Family & community (our various ~makers~) do indeed make our primary decisions for us (have a plan for us) before we are born. This is called pre-destination, & in the wrong hands is insidious indeed. More correctly, this necessity of social formation can be part insidious in all hands but is more insidious in some hands than in others. Childhood conditioning has to exist, it is no good arguing against the facts of life,(even less point to so called therapy groups who profess a hatred of mothers) but we needs concern ourselves as to which God is most trustworthy in exercising this power.
Whether we be a Maori being indoctrinated into nature spirits, a Christian being incalculated with the love of Christ & respect for the laws of Moses, or a Muslim being indoctrinated into the romance which is Islam, these things in first instance… ~come to us softly in the rhythm of our grandmothers voice~ Religions stress the role of women in the home, where raising children in the faith is the continuity of all religion & culture. Some say we are meant to be breast fed until age seven. I agree with ~breast nourished~ while, to the relief off nursing mothers, ceding that breast should be taken metaphorically.
Pre-destination & childhood conditioning are subject to abuse & error no matter where we vest them. Yet we have no other way of producing a functional human being or a cohesive society; thus they are a given; simply a fact of life we have to best manage.
Mothers, grandmothers, aunties & even older children must entrance the very young with fairy tales & myths which engage their imaginations, & assure them of their place within family & community.
It should be self evident, they can only utilize those fairy tales which they themselves have knowledge off; thus does culture & religion perpetuate itself by inter-generational means.
The west has plenty of experience with criminals & delinquents who will not abide by rule of law. It also has experience with civil protest by those who will not comply with the law as a matter of conscience; but has no pre-existing precedents for dealing with those pre-conditioned so they cannot. Not surprising if western authorities are scrambling for solutions. The over-rated multi-culture has often been challenged by cultures only part integrative, but this time it has taken in a culture which is both non integrative & wholly indigestible.
The difference between will not & cannot should be self evident, as western secular appeasements indicate, they require two different managements. The secular is belatedly learning its arrogance in believing it could integrate Islam, is based on the seculars own religious ignorance.
Secular appeasements of Islam in the west, are probably a recognition that Muslims not only will not accept rule of law, but are preconditioned in a manner so they cannot.
This supports the case of those of us who advised the west not to allow Muslim immigration in the first place, yet does nothing to solve the problem now that they are here.
Rule of law is my preferment, yet I have little interest in imposing it on Islam. The British invested a huge effort in installing rule of law in Islamic states, yet look at the lawless state of Pakistan, Indonesia & other Islamic states today. I am happy to offer the Bible to Muslims as the moral rock on which rule of law stands, but I do not support western efforts to install rule of law on the constantly shifting sands of the Quran.
The amorality of the Quran is a natural partner to rule of Sharia edict. For Muslims, rule of Sharia edicts is not a choice or an option… but a given. For Jews & Christians, rule of law is neither a choice or an option… but a given. Two different Gods, two different ~givens~
It is my personal view Islam is an outlaw faith, in the traditional sense of… ~outside the law~ Islam itself holds all unbelievers as ~outlaws~ in a state of rebellion against the Allah entity. I believe Islam has set its terms in how others must deal with Islam. As you sow, so shall you reap.
Matter is held together & made functional by a set of immutable laws. Anti-matter also exists & can only maintain its internal cohesion by something we might best call anti-law. Christianity is pro-God, Islam anti (against) the same God. Christianity revolves around the Most High in its positive acceptance off him. Islam revolves around the Most High in its negative rejection of him. As both revolve around the same God, it is Y-H-W-H, his Son Christ Jesus & his Holy Spirit who is in the power & control position, not the Allah entity. As Christianity maintains order by rule of law, the otherness off Islam maintains internal order by a system of anti-law.
The west is forever hopeful of installing rule of law in Islam. Yet one verse in the Quran states… ~Men plot & scheme but Allah is the best of schemers~ Over 1,400 years, every western attempt to graft rule of law to the condition ~amoral~ has proven Allah is indeed the best of schemers. The converse is also true, Islam has singularly failed to graft rule of Sharia edicts to the Biblical condition intentionally ~moral~ thus Allah is not as clever as he claims to be. The west needs stop reinvesting in serial failure. We cannot install rule of law in Islam. Islam is impervious to it. We instead need to look to WHOLE family of Abraham solutions; ones that respect the prescriptions given by our respective Gods.
In closing may I again advise Muslims… ~You to your God, me to mine~
